Former Conklin restaurant owner arrested for tax fraud

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A former Conklin Restaurant owner has been arrested for tax fraud.

According to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, 52-year old Robert Niederriter of Kirkwood was arrested Wednesday on six felony charges for allegedly failing to accurately report sales tax and remit over $59,000 in sales tax collected at his former restaurant, Buffalo Head Bar & Grill.

The site is now the home of Jumbo's No. 1.

According to the Department of Taxation and Finance, from June 2011 to November 2015, Niederriter underreported total sales by over $747,000 and failed to remit nearly $59,800 .

He also failed to report quarterly sales tax returns.

If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of up to 5 to 15 years in prison.
