This month's First Friday art walk includes a look at a physician's personal gallery and the opening of a new art party venue.

The Pacheco Gallery at 86 Front St. in Binghamton features over 30 acrylic paintings by Doctor Joe Pacheco.

The former pulmonologist, or lung doctor, has been painting regularly since he was in college.

His subject matter ranges from sci-fi imagery to personal recollections.

Pacheco says he's developed a knack for painting.

"I can feel it. You can understand why ancient people believed in muses. Sometimes you're painting and you do something and you make it better but you don't know where the idea came from. It's almost like from somewhere else," said Pacheco.

Dr. Pacheco was recently diagnosed with a form of cancer called multiple myeloma and had to abruptly close his medical practice.

He is inviting all of his former patients and the entire community to his gallery so he can properly thank them for their patronage.
