First Friday: Bob Johnson Photography Competition

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Bob Johnston Photography Show and Competition is in its 7th year at the Cooperative Gallery 213 just up the block on State Street.

101 images were submitted, mostly from photographers in our area.

The contest, which is co-sponsored by the Two Rivers Photography Club, is being judged by longtime photojournalist and current fine art photographer Chuck Haupt.

Haupt says the level of talent in our area is comparable to any other place in the world.

"I've been a photographer for close to 40 years and been looking at photography for over 50 years.  I'm exposed to a lot of photographs and have seen a lot of things.  I love coming here and judging and seeing a lot of original images that I never have seen before," said Haupt.

Friday's opening reception will run from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. with the winners announced at 7 p.m.

The Best in Show and two runners-up in both color and black and white will each receive a cash prize.

The Art Walk takes place at 21 venues in and around downtown Binghamton Friday evening.
