Firefighters help Traci's Hope

JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. - Professional firefighters are showing their support for a local charity that assists people with breast cancer.

The Johnson City Firefighters Association, with the help of their brethren in Binghamton and Endicott, have created T-shirts to raise money for Traci's Hope.

The "Fight for a Cure" shirts include a logo with the words hope, courage, faith and strength.

Johnson City Firefighters Association President Bob Blakeslee said everyone knows someone who's been affected by cancer.

In fact, firefighters have an increased risk of developing cancer themselves, especially rare forms.

"It's just something that's near and dear to all of us. It affects us, retirees it will affect us down the road. We took the job knowing that it's one of the risks above and beyond going into a burning building," said Blakeslee.

Traci's Hope provides money to local breast cancer victims to help pay for uncovered expenses.
