Excellus gave ACHIEVE $135,000 toward the agency's recent renovation of its Town of Dickinson facility.ACHIEVE provides rehabilitation and support services to individuals with moderate to severe developmental disabilities.
The money covered half of the lift track system installed to help move wheelchair bound clients to the bathroom or to participate in therapy.
"It helps to prevent falls. It helps to prevent individuals from slipping. It helps them to be a little bit more ambulatory in trying to get them from one location to another. Safety is one of our first priorities in our program. So, it really helps to support that initiative for us," said executive director Mary Jo Thorn.
ACHIEVE recently spent over $3 million on the overall renovation as it doubled the size of its day rehabilitation rooms after it moved many of its offices and meeting rooms to its new location on Riverside Drive in Johnson City. Thorn says the Excellus grant is one of its largest donations ever from the business community.
