Endicott Police Officer rides bike to D.C. to honor fallen Johnson City officer

WASHINGTON DC - The late D.W. Smith was one of hundreds of fallen police officers honored in Washington D.C. on Friday.

The Road To Hope bicycle rides converged on the World War II Memorial in our nation's capital.

Organized by Law Enforcement United, the rides pay tribute to fallen officers from across the country.

Endicott Police Officer Matt Brubaker joined the 250 mile journey from Reading, Pennsylvania and rode in honor of Johnson City Police Officer David W. Smith who shot to death in the line of duty back in 2014.

"That morning that D.W. was killed, I was just finishing my shift and going home. I actually heard the call but I didn't realize what it was. As I thought about it, it hit home that he didn't get to go home and I did," he said.

Brubaker says that while he didn't know Smith personally, it's important that we never forget his sacrifice.
