Ellis Brothers Dedicated to Downtown Binghamton

- The Ellis Brothers in Binghamton is planning a remarkable comeback.

Fire tore through its Water St. building Wednesday morning.

Fire investigators and insurance company workers are busy at the site. The cause of the fire that destroyed the Ellis Brothers contemporary furniture, carpet and accessories collection is still unknown.

However, Ellis Brothers' other building on Washington St. downtown is open for business. An alley way separates the two buildings.

The traditional-style furniture collection is fine.

Vice President Chuck Ellis is grateful for the first responders' efforts and the community's support for more than 100 years.

"I'd like to get across right now, first of all, our gratitude to the police and fire department for saving this building and for all the work they did in our building yesterday on Water Street. Due to their efforts, I think we'll be able to rebuild that building right where it is," said Ellis.

Final clearance has not been given yet, but he says the Ellis family is committed to downtown.

Ellis Brothers' Washington Street location, next to the Metro Center, is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 until 5 and until 8 on Thursdays.
