The New York State Department of Transportation is seeking public input on proposed changes to the intersection of Sheedy Road and Route 26 in Vestal.

The state plans to create left-turn lanes for north and southbound traffic on Route 26.

And it wants to alter the driveways of nearby businesses so they're not too close to the intersection.

The goal is to bring the accident rate in the area down to or below the statewide average.

Traffic at the intersection is expected to increase upon completion of the nearby Vestal Nursing Center currently under construction.

A public information meeting will be held next Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Vestal Town Hall.
