The Binghamton Police Officer who was killed in a motorcycle accident on Sunday night is being remembered for her service.

Officer Katie Brown, 28, and former Binghamton Police Officer Christopher Stoeckel were killed after Stoeckel lost control of his motorcycle along Route 434 in Binghamton.

Officer Brown had served on the force for three years. Only two and a half weeks ago, Brown received a life saving bar at this police awards ceremony at city hall.

Last July, she and another officer helped a woman who fell off a bridge in the city. The river was near flood stage and they secured the woman until backup help arrived to get her out of the water.

Like many other officers, Brown wasn't looking for the recognition.

"Her attitude was really I was just dong my job, like many of the officers feel when they are recognized for doing certain events. I felt that she really went above and beyond," said Mayor Rich David.

A funeral service for Brown will be held in her home state of Indiana.

Brown's death comes less than two months after Johnson City Police Officer David Smith was killed in the line of duty.
