City of Binghamton installs electric vehicle charging station

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The City of Binghamton is supporting the growth of electric vehicle use by adding another place where drivers can charge up.

The city has installed a charging station at Rec Park that can provide electricity for two vehicles.

It's the first EV station the city government has purchased with the help of a NYSERDA grant.

It's free for the public to use with a maximum of a four hour charge per vehicle.

According to the city, that will be enough to provide a half or full charge for most electric cars.

Mayor Rich David says that the number of electric or plug-in vehicles is rapidly growing in New York State, which is helping to reduce carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.
