A downtown Binghamton bakery has come up with its own way to help fund a new hood and Ansul system.

Chroma Café and Bakery on Chenango St. in Binghamton has launched a Kickstarter campaign to collect nearly $10,000.

The 2-year-old bakery plans to install the expensive kitchen equipment at the new location around the corner at 97 Court St.

Owners Heath and Nancy Hauptfleisch say they've been overwhelmed by the popularity of their artisan breads and pastries and simply need more space to bake and serve people.

"Heath and I are really motivated about creating great products for our community. And then we also take the time to donate back to the community. We want to be part of downtown," said Hauptfleisch.

The bakery plans to open on Court St. around Memorial Day.

To support Chroma, log on to Kickstarter.com and search Chroma Café and Bakery Binghamton, or you can find a link on the bakery's Facebook page.

There are thank you presents for donors such as a free cookie for a $5 donation or custom rewards for larger donors.
