Chroma Café and Bakery is located in the Midtown Antiques building on Chenango Street. Heath and Nancy Hauptfleisch opened the eatery about a year and a half ago. They offer an ever-changing variety of breads, including sicilian, sourdough, rye and raisin, all baked fresh overnight by Heath. Plus they make croissants and danishes from scratch, a process that takes three days. And they're celebrated for their sandwich style cookies filled with different flavored butter creams.
Nancy says they take an artistic approach to baking.
"It's intensity of flavor and texture. We want to make sure that everything we create and make everyday has a lot of flavor and a lot of appeal. We try to not be the same old, same old."
Chroma Cafe also serves breakfast and lunch, with sandwiches prepared on its own focaccia or ciabatta bread. Hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can place special orders by calling 595-7612.
