The Check Out Hunger campaign is in full swing at Wegmans. It benefits the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, which operates across a six county region, including Broome, Tioga and Chemung.  Last year, the Food Bank gave out nearly 10 million pounds of food through area pantries and organizations.

People checking out can donate $2, $3, $5, or round up their bill to the nearest dollar if they only are able to donate the change. The Food Bank can actually buy six meals for every $2 donation and can get $28 of food for every $5 donation because of partnerships and food bought in bulk.

"Through those agencies that we work with, we're serving over 11,000 people each week and we couldn't do the work that we're doing without the support from folks in our community," said Missy Goetschius.
