Calling hours are today for the Johnson City Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty earlier this week. They are at Chase Funeral Home on Chenango Street in Port Dickinson.

Officer David Smith was shot and killed by an MRI technician who apparently attacked him on Harrison St.

Smith is survived by his wife and son.

He was on JC's police force for 18 and a half years.

Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy came to the funeral home to pay his respects. Before becoming Governor Cuomo's right hand man, Duffy was a police chief and the Rochester Mayor.

"Unfortunately, I've been to a lot of these over the course of my career and they are all extremely tough. I just wanted to come down and pay my respects to Officer Smith's family, his department. I had a chance to talk to his chief, I met the family and his son. I'm a dad so I can't imagine an 11 year-old child losing his father like that. It's terrible," said Duffy.

Calling hours for Officer Smith go until 7 p.m.

The last Village of Johnson City police officer killed in the line of duty was in the mid-1920's when that officer was hit by a train.
