Buyout Homes Demolished

The first of the flood-prone buyout homes in Westover was demolished Wednesday.

It was at 20 Oakdale Road, just off Main Street. In total 36 houses will be torn down. 25 of those are FEMA buyout properties. 11 are buyouts that the Town of Union funded through a disaster recovery grant it received. Anytime FEMA money is used to tear down a house or business, the property must remain forever green. By using other funding, the town will be able to redevelop the properties. FEMA buyout demolitions are also going on in West Corners and Vestal.
