VESTAL, N.Y. - Matco Electric in Vestal is the Greater Binghamton Chamber Business of the Week.
It was founded by the late businessman and entrepreneur Jim Matthews in 1965 as his original business venture in our area.
Matco is an industrial and commercial electrical contractor that also does systems maintenance for a number of long-term local customers.
In 2007, employees Ken Elliott and Mark Frieje bought the business.
Elliott says Matco is committed to keeping up with evolving technologies with an emphasis on 3-D modeling.
And he says Matco is looking for the next generation of electricians to eventually replace its veteran workforce.
"We like to hire for life. If somebody's local and they're looking for a career, those are the type of people we like to hire is career people because it's really a family business," said Elliott.
Elliott says the keys to Matco Electric's success is its excellent safety record, high customer satisfaction ratings and long-term relationships.
Matco moved into its current headquarters on Gates Road in Vestal in 2013.
It also has offices in Ithaca and in the Corning-Elmira area.
