Business of the Week: Calvary Community Church

JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. - Calvary Community Church in Johnson City is the Greater Binghamton Chamber's Business of the Week.

Founded by Reverend Gary Sawyer and his wife in 1988, the Evangelical Methodist church has been on Harry L Drive since 1998.

It holds worship services at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. on Sundays and offers both a full children's program and nursery care during both services.

Calvary Community also operates a Christian Counseling Center serving 300 clients per month.

The center's seven counselors and life coach offer family and mental health counseling to people of all faiths or no faith at all.

Reverend Sawyer says he has high hopes for our community.

"We came here in 1988 and fell in love with this community and believe that there is potential here. With all the ups and downs, the economic climate, that something new is happening, something good is coming, that we're going to see prosperity come back to this region," he said.

Sawyer says Calvary Community hopes to break ground in the coming years on a new facility on land it already owns on Columbia Drive in JC.

He says the structure will be large enough to provide space for local non-profit organizations that help the needy.
