Binghamton University is opening a new MarketPlace. After 18 months and an $8 million renovation, B.U.'s new food court is officially open for business.

Located in the University Union, The MarketPlace offers a variety of freshly prepared food. It features 12 different food stations, including a Starbucks and a Red Mango, which is a frozen yogurt chain. It also boasts a lounge area with fireplaces and flat screen TVs. With seating for 500 people, Brian Rose, Vice President of Student Affairs, hopes it will build a sense of community on campus.

"We hope it not only will provide a great new food venue for the campus, but truly a sort of campus town square, a gathering spot, a meeting spot. And that iconic place that you can say, where do you meet on the Binghamton campus? You meet at the MarketPlace," said Rose.

The university plans to make adjustments according to how the students respond. A new Atrium in the University Union is set to open later in the spring as well.
