Broome County Executive Debbie Preston says the website takes a comprehensive look at gas development. She says while she does support responsible drilling, the website is not a push for New York State to approve fracking. She says it displays both sides of the issue.
The guide is designed for residents, businesses and the gas industry. The site includes employment links, land maps, information about leasing and road use agreements and emergency contacts.
"We are very excited about how good it looks. We feel that it's very user friendly, very clean and I think you'll find a lot of information," said Margaret Scarinzi, director of the Office of Energy Development. "We didn't try to develop all of the content. Rather we tried to connect people to the most current information to make it relevant and important so people can educate themselves."
The web address is BroomeNaturalGas.com.
Citizen Action's anti-fracking organizer Isaac Silberman-Gorn says the website confirms that the county's Office of Energy Development is ignoring the dangers of fracking. He says the county wasted $6,000 developing the site.
