Broome County Dog Shelter to hold open house on Saturday

TOWN OF DICKINSON, N.Y. - An open house will be held to find homes for some loving furry friends.

The Broome County Dog Shelter in the Town of Dickinson will be opening to the public on Saturday to show off its recent renovations.

People can meet the adoptable dogs, and hopefully find them a forever home.

There will also be tours of the new visiting rooms and lobby.

The shelter contracts with many local municipalities to take in strays that have been found.

Manager Kelly Conlon says that when the owners can't be located, the shelter looks for a new family.

"The main goal is to have a safe location for these dogs to have, while they might have got away from their owners and hopefully reunite with people looking for them," said Conlon.

The open housed runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The shelter is located at 110 Cutler Pond Road near SUNY Broome.

The organization is seeking donations such as large collars, leashes, toys, Pedigree adult size dog food and even cash.
