Dickinson (WIVT) - Members of the Broome Development Center took on the ALS ice bucket challenge.

Earlier this week, the Southern Tier Independence Center challenged the BDC to the challenge. Not to be outdone, about ten members of the BDC had a front-end loader dump a rather large bucket of cold water on them outside their facility in the Town of Dickinson.

Deputy Director Jim Skrzeczkowski said working with people with developmental disabilities gives his staff a lot of sympathy for what patients with ALS are going through.

"We're all in human services here so we all have the same goal and the same direction. I think that for us, it's very similar. It's something that we can all relate to because we deal with it at different levels every day," he said.

Skrzeczkowski then issued a challenge to the local head of the regional DDSO, Anne Marie Peterson, as well as staff at Developmental Centers in Brooklyn and Western New York.
