Saturday is Kick Butts Day.

Reality Check Tioga-Broome and the Binghamton Boys and Girls Club will be hosting a basketball tournament to help raise awareness of the dangers of smoking.

The organizers of the 3 on 3 tournament hope to get that message to young people before they try it.

Between 12 and 15 percent of high school kids are using tobacco in Broome County.

"Kids learn better when they're doing something if they're enjoying it and not just because they're being told in a school or something like that. So if they enjoy it, they'll get the lesson better," said organizer Brendan Bialy.

The tournament is Saturday for kids in grades 5 through 12. Tip off for grades 5 and 6 is at noon, grades 7 through 9 at 1 p.m., and grades 10 through 12 at 2:30 p.m.

Admission is free.
