At the recent monthly meeting of the legislature, Democrat Jason Garnar voted against re-appointing the county's three member panel. He says according to New York State the county needs to have a minimum of three people. However, Garnar says there should be more people appointed to serve. He says if one member has a conflict of interest and can't vote on an issue then the other two could become deadlocked and not be able to settle a potential ethical dispute.
Jason Garnar says, "I think there are a number of people in the community, we have a number of institutions and groups that we have called upon before to be on boards, I just think that it's not good to have just three people on the board."
The three men who are on the board are appointed by the county executive and approved by the legislature. Their terms run through 2016. The board of ethics looks over financial statements from county officials and at other issues that are brought to its attention.
