Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park set to open this weekend

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park is opening its doors for its 142nd season.

The Zoo will be open for good on Saturday, after being open only on the weekends over the past few weeks.

All of the lower zoo creatures will be roaming around, including Chica the Bear, and Zoo Executive Director Jackie Peeler says the animals tend to be more active when it's cooler.

The free tram will also be running to bring people from the lower portion of the zoo to its upper section.

Peeler says it's the perfect time to enjoy some fresh air after being couped up all winter.

"It's fun to get back outside and this is a great place to spend an afternoon, walking up and down the hill and seeing all of the animals and conservation projects as well," said Peeler.

The Zoo will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with ticket sales ending at 4 p.m.

The train will be not be operating for a few weeks as the zoo waits for blacktop paving.

A number of exhibits are also undergoing renovations including the spotted-necked otters station.

Upcoming events include an Earth Fest display on April 30th and Salamander Saturday the following week in May.
