Binghamton University is restructuring how it engages its alumni and raises private donations.

The B.U. Council received an update from the university's recently created Office for Advancement. The office oversees the B.U. Foundation and Alumni Affairs.

Among the goals is to offer opportunities for alumni to remain involved at the school by being guest lecturers, attending networking events and assisting with career advancement. It continues to work to increase private investment in B.U.

Interim Vice President Rebecca Banner says a lot of work has been done to prepare the department for new leadership.

"We've been doing a lot of kicking the tires and realigning staff and their charge and its all been this sort of this collaborative process of deciding what we can do better in the future so that the new Vice President can come in and hit the ground running," said Banner.

Banner says the university has been steadily increasing the number of individual donors and its overall fundraising totals.
