Binghamton students team up with local singing group for 'The Music Man'

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Binghamton High School students have teamed up with a local barbershop-style singing group to the tune of 76 Trombones.

The Rod Serling School of Arts is presenting a musical performance of "The Music Man."

The students are joined by members of the Southerntiersmen, a barbershop quartet that performs throughout the community.

"We occasionally have to work things out just between me and them, because I get them going and singing during the show. It's always a really easy, fluid interaction," said senior Jonah Capani.

"It's a labor of love, it's not work at all. Working with these wonderful students at Binghamton High School has been great. It gives us older gentleman a new sense of purpose in life," said Southerntiersmenn Director Michael Lurenz.

The Southerntiersmen have done collaborations with students at Maine-Endwell and Chenango Valley.

Music Man will be performed at the Helen Foley Theatre at Binghamton High School next weekend.

Show times include next Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
