Binghamton high school students preview "Damn Yankees" at First Ward Senior Center

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Members of the First Ward Senior Center in Binghamton got a taste of the '50's Tuesday during their lunch.

Three cast members of Binghamton High School's upcoming production of "Damn Yankees" stopped in to sing a couple of songs from the musical.

The story centers on a fan of the hapless Washington Senators baseball team who makes a deal with devil to help his beloved Senators finally overcome the dominant Yankees.

Olivia Capozzi, who plays Meg, and Josh Schull, who plays Joe Hardy, sang the duet "A Man Doesn't Know."

Then Anna Gilroy who plays Lola sang the classic number "Whatever Lola Wants."

Gilroy is a senior and has performed in every musical staged by the Rod Serling School of Fine Arts since she was a freshman.

"We always have an excellent pit. And our actors work really well together and there's a lot of camaraderie. And I think you get to see that on stage. We're all really like each other and we all get along really well so you can see that friendship on stage. We're having a good time," said Gilroy.

Gilroy says Damn Yankees is a fun, upbeat show that is good for all ages.

Performances are in the high school's Helen Foley Theater next weekend, Friday March 9th and Saturday March 10th at 7:30 pm and Sunday March 11th at 2:00 pm.
