Binghamton High School students prep for annual community Thanksgiving dinner

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Preparation for Binghamton's biggest Thanksgiving Dinner is almost complete.

The 22nd annual Binghamton High School Community Thanksgiving Dinner will take place Thursday starting at noon.

We stopped by the school Wednesday where dozens of students were preparing food, setting tables and decorating.

The student-run event will serve up a full Thanksgiving Meal for around 1,500 people.

They're preparing over 1,100 pounds of turkey, 800 pounds of stuffing, and over 130 pounds of cranberry sauce.

Avia Hailey is the Decorations Committee Chairperson.

She says the entire district is giving something for the cause.

"Everyone is getting involved and we're all giving something to this community event and it makes it so special.  We have artwork from the middle schools and elementary schools.  It shows a whole community coming together for the greater good," said Hailey.

Each child that attends will receive a book and toy.

The students also sold table sponsorships to local businesses for $250 each.

A shuttle service will be provided and will pick up passengers at Ben Franklin Elementary, North Shore Towers, the Hinchey Bus Hub, and the First Ward Senior Center.
