BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A local plumbing company is giving away money and equipment to help local non-profits ease their financial burden.
Starting in 2016, Auchinachie has chosen an organization each month to promote on its social media platforms, like Facebook.
For every like the post receives, Auchinachie will donate $1, up to $1,000 for that organization.
The company recently chose A Room to Heal, a non-profit that takes on major room renovations for terminally ill and severely sick children and teens.
Instead of donating money, Auchinachie gave away a Ductless heating and cooling system valued at over $5,000 for 17-year old Katie Creech of the Town of Maine.
She is suffering from Rett Syndrome, which causes a rare genetic mutation that affects brain development in girls.
President and CEO Bob Auchinachie says rather than using the money for ads, he wanted the funds to make a more significant impact.
"We do a lot of advertising and I thought instead of just spending money on radio, TV, and billboards, we could get involved with organizations that might need some donations. We came up with the idea and we've gone 19 months in a row and we plan on continuing and going strong," said Auchinachie.
Auchinachie says the company chose A Room to Heal because one of his employees, Paul Marconi volunteers with the organization and suggested the donation.
