A significant arrest was made in connection with a string of robberies across Broome County.

Last night at about 9 p.m., a man robbed the Leroy Package Store on Binghamton's westside. The liquor store clerk handed him money and then saw him leave in a light colored car.

A Binghamton police officer was a few streets away and saw the car, which was going through traffic lights and stop signs.

Police pulled over and arrested 31-year-old Christopher Walsh. Police say they found his disguise and the $450 he had stolen.

Walsh has been charged with robbing the Leroy Package Store last night, Smoker's Choice on Pennsylvania Avenue on March 21st and the convenience store at 210 Court St. on March 11th.

Walsh is connected with more robberies that have occurred around Broome County since last November.

"As I said, 23 robberies, we believe he is responsible for about 15 of those all put together. There have been additional robberies. A couple we believe are copycats. They wore the same glasses and coat, but the build was different, the mannerisms were different. Most of these robberies have videotape that we're able to compare," said Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski.

Police believe Walsh has alcohol and drug addictions. He doesn't have a permanent address and has been staying with numerous people in recent months, including girlfriends.

Anyone who has been with Walsh and has details about the alleged robberies is asked to call Binghamton Detectives at 772-7080.
