ALDI supermarket reopens on Upper Front Street

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - A new and improved Town of Chenango store reopens on Thursday.

The ALDI supermarket on Upper Front Street has been remodeled and expanded.

The company tore down a wall and put up an addition allowing for another aisle.

That made room for a greater selection of produce, chilled produce and meats.

ALDI also offers organic and gluten-free foods and has numerous lines of private label items.

Director of Operations Aaron LeFever says ALDI's prices are up to 50 percent less than other grocery stores.

"The customers feedback have been overwhelmingly positive, really meeting the demand of existing customers and with what the new customers are looking for. Our investment in this remodel is not only geared toward our existing customers but hopefully to entice new customers to come shop us," said LeFever.

LeFever says ALDI found work for the Upper Front Street employees at its Johnson City and Vestal stores during the remodel which began in February.

He expects that increased business will lead them to increase their staff by 33 percent.
