After a five year absence, specialty planes will return to the skies above the Greater Binghamton Airport for the rebirth this Summer of the Air Show.

The Greater Binghamton Air Show will take place on July 4th and 5th. The last one occurred in 2009.

The popular event has been hiatus because of runway projects at the airport as well as the lack of a title sponsor. Now, Tioga Downs in Nichols has stepped forward to sponsor the event.

It will feature the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, an 11 Ship Aerobatic Team, historic WWII War Birds and many world-renowned civilian performers doing aerobatic maneuvers with their high performance aircraft.

Tom Osiecki of Tioga Downs says the racino has supported the community since its inception.

"For 8 years now, we've been sponsoring community events. We've given a million dollars to a charity in the area. We're one of the biggest contributors to taxes in the area and we're very pleased to continue that. This is really a continuation for what we've done for many years here in the area," said Osiecki.

The air show begins with a night show on the evening of July 4th.

Specially equipped aircraft will launch fireworks to light up the night sky.

More information will be posted at in the coming days.
