After Tenney changes reasoning, activists hold mock town hall

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Local activists won't let go of their demand that Claudia Tenney hold in-person town halls meetings as the freshman Congresswoman continues to change her reasoning for not doing so.

On Thursday, members of Citizen Action held a mock town hall including a Tenney impersonator.

The group says it wants to discuss their concerns about possible healthcare reform with her, including their allegation that Republicans want to take money from healthcare to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy.

"That's what the recess is about, to come meet with your constituents. And we're pretty shocked that she didn't use one single day of her 2 week recess to come meet and hear from people here in her district," said Mary Clark.

Initially, Tenney said she wouldn't hold town halls because she didn't want to engage in shouting matches with paid protestors.

She later said that she would hold them but first needed the Capitol Police to complete an investigation into threats against her office.

On Tuesday, she told NewsChannel 34 that she was still open to the idea but preferred meeting with constituents one on one or in small groups.

On Thursday, her spokeswoman said she'd try to schedule one for the summer after their marathon session is over.
