12-year-old from Endicott launches custom shoe design business

ENDICOTT, N.Y. - A 12-year old from Endicott is blending together his love for art, sports and sneakers.

Dante Bertoni has started DB Custom Kicks, a custom shoe design and painting business.

While on vacation, Bertoni was given a pair of White Nike Air Jordans and wanted to pain them orange and black to represent Union-Endicott.

After making the high honor roll, his father Brian purchased him an airbrush for precision painting.

People give him a blank pair of shoes and an idea and Dante can paint them with designs, color fades and custom logos.

He has a room to display his shoes along with a work area where he airbrushes them.

Bertoni says he was inspired to wear something that had his own personal touch.

"I like drawing and I drew up a bunch of shoes and started coloring them the way I wanted. I just wanted to paint shoes and have a real shoe that I made," said Bertoni.

Bertoni has painted New York Mets and Dallas Cowboy themed shoes, and he also designed a music themed pair for his teacher at school.

He also paints cleats and athletic footwear and has a goal to design a shoe for Arizona Cardinals Defensive End and Union-Endicott Alum Chandler Jones.
