Trade Unions Anticipate Work on New Casino

- Numerous local trade unions said they're excited about the potential to work at the proposed Traditions casino project in the Town of Union.

Traditions and the union have signed an agreement that will ensure the local organizations do much of the construction work if Traditions secures the Southern Tier's gaming license.

A few labor unions that stand to benefit include Laborers International Union of North America Local 785, International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, and Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 112.

"We can all use the work. It's important to have our local people on the jobs, rather than having people from out of state, because all that money spins around in the community and keeps the community growing," said Jim Rounds, the business manager of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 112.

A casino license for the region is expected to be awarded this fall.

Traditions $150 million proposed expansion is competing against Tioga Downs in Nichols and another business venture upstate in Tyre for the license.
