Binghamton University isn't the only local school participating in the state's tax-free START-UP New York program.

Last week, BU announced five companies have been approved for the program.

Now, SUNY Broome has received approval from Empire State Development.

START-UP establishes tax free areas for new businesses or existing ones that are looking to expand.

Eligible businesses can operate tax free on or near participating campuses so long as they create new jobs and have a research relationship with the school.

SUNY Broome is planning free informational sessions about the application process.
