Fire chief dies during fire at his Chenango County home

PLYMOUTH, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - A fire chief in Chenango County is dead after a fire at his home in the town of Plymouth.

According to the Chenango County Bureau of Fire, 60-year-old Frank Fowlston died of smoke inhalation during the fire at his home on County Road 21.

The fire was reported around 2 a.m. Monday morning.

Crews found Fowlston’s body within the home.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire, but they say it began in the living room.

Departments from a number of communities in the area responded to the fire – including Plymouth, Norwich, North Norwich, Smyrna, and Sherburne.
