Binghamton edges Syracuse for Golden Snowball

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse’s four-year reign as holders of the Golden Snowball is over.

For the first time since the winter of 1982-1983, the city of Binghamton has won the dubious honor for accumulating the most snow.

One year after its least snowy winter, Binghamton recorded 135.2 inches of snow, edging out the Salt City’s 134.9 inches, according to GoldenSnowball.com.

Rochester finished a distant third with 107.1 inches.

Syracuse has dominated the Golden Snowball competition since the turn of the century, winning it 14 of the last 17 years.

The last time Rochester won the Golden Snowball was the winter of 2011-2012.

Buffalo won the Golden Snowball during the 2001-2002 season.
