SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse University announced on Monday morning that $118 million in renovations are coming to the Carrier Dome – including a new fixed roof and a new scoreboard.
According to the school, the Board of Trustees authorized the money for the renovations over the weekend.
They say the renovations – which also include added Wi-Fi capabilities and a state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems – should be completed by Fall 2020.
Air conditioning is expected to be in place by 2022.
According to the University, the upgrade “represents the next step in advancing the $225 million West Campus transformation strategy,” which were announced on May 16.
Syracuse University Athletics Director John Wildhack said the renovations will not impact the school's major sports.
Vice President & Chief Facilities Officer Pete Sala said the facility will be closed to some events that typically occur over the summer, such as basketball camps and certain student life activities.
Additional details on the project are available on the University's website.
The University says updates on the project will be available here.
