Founded in 2006, Southern Tier Dermatology & Aesthetics has become one of the fastest growing medical practices in upstate New York. Its flagship location was originally in Vestal, with only Dr. Colleen Crandell at the helm. Its original clientele were so satisfied with the comprehensive, personalized care and treatment they received, that they spread the word about their experiences at Southern Tier. This word-of-mouth campaign led to the opening of its second location in March of 2011 in Big Flats a third location in Utica in late 2012 and a fourth location in Dryden NY in 2016. We also have a pathology lab in the Endwell office.
Southern Tier Dermatology continues to grow daily due to the word of mouth of many satisfied patients and referring providers. Southern Tier is a provider under many insurance plans throughout New York State, and is continuously adding more to its list.
Dr. Colleen Crandell, owner of Southern Tier Dermatology & Aesthetics, founded the practice in 2006. She graduated with honors from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998. She then completed a residency in Dermatology at SUNY Downstate. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and an active member of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. A recognized expert in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, Dr. Crandell has genuine care for every patient and gives each one the focused personal attention they deserve.
Dr. Curt Fenkl, along with Dr. Colleen Crandell, of Southern Tier Dermatology & Aesthetics has undergone extensive training and professional development in all areas of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Fenkl graduated from SUNY at Stony Brook with his Bachelor’s degree in economics in 1993 and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997. With a comprehensive personal approach to dermatology, Dr. Fenkl has been developing unique, individual solutions with patients for hard-to-treat skin and inflammation disorders at Southern Tier Dermatology & Aesthetics for the past seven years. Dr. Fenkl specializes in vascular lasers including treatment of children for birth marks and hemangiomas. Using the latest advances in medical lasers ensures the best possible result without risking or damaging healthy skin or structures surrounding the birthmark or lesion. He also does facial resurfacing. Facial resurfacing is a popular laser cosmetic surgery for those wishing to look years younger by removing or reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face. With the help of a CO2 laser, facial resurfacing, also known as a laser peel, can help remove damaged or wrinkled skin. The procedure is most commonly used around the eyes and the mouth, though it is also effective for treating facial scars. In addition, facial resurfacing can be used in specific areas on the face, or it can be used on the entire face.
