The JCC is offering a Learn to Swim class for women only on Tuesday mornings from 9:30-10:15am starting today through March 4th. The class is open to women throughout the community. The award-winning documentary Chasing Ice will be screened free of charge on tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Spencer-Van Etten Community Center (formerly the Grange). The film will be followed by a short talk-back. Popcorn and soft drinks will be served. In case of bad weather, the event will be held the following Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the same time and place. The events are free and open, but contributions are welcome to help cover the cost of the movie rental and refreshments.

The JCC is hosting a 'Duck n’ Dive Dodgeball Tournament' for middle and high school students today starting at sign-in at 11:30 a.m. The tournament is open to boys and girls in teams of five. The tournament will be split into two brackets: 11 – 13 year olds, and 14 - 17 year olds and prizes will be awarded to winning teams.

Respected local dog trainer Francis “Myrph” McMahon will offer a five-week dog training class for owners on Wednesday’s from 6 – 7 p.m. beginning today. Subsequent classes will be February 5, 19, 26 & March 5. The class is open to the entire community and will be held at the JCC, 500 Clubhouse Road in Vestal. Cost of the class is $150, with a reduced fee of $140 for JCC members. Please register by contacting the JCC office at (607) 724-2417. Dogs eight-weeks and older are welcome to participate in the class which helps owners transform “impossible” pups into well-mannered, obedient companions. FREE one hour workshop - 'Banana Milkshakes: Making Blended Families Work' from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at the JCC, 500 Clubhouse Road in Vestal. The class is open to the entire community and individual parents or all are encouraged to attend. Those interested are asked to register by calling the JCC at 607-724-2417. In this class, two local mothers are joining together to share their experiences and discuss six strategies they use to help their two families blend together in a happy and healthy way.
